Preparing Your Data for Custom DSX ODBC Integration

Overview

DSX supports direct ODBC database integrations, allowing Shipwise to connect your order and shipping systems directly with our DSX workstation software. This enables:

  • Real-time order retrieval and label generation

  • Automated updates to your internal system after shipment

  • Seamless, reliable data flow without file uploads or manual entry

To enable this, our team builds a custom integration based on the structure of your internal database. Here’s how you can help us get started.

πŸ“€ What We Need from You

To create a successful ODBC integration with DSX, we need to understand the structure and content of your order, item, and shipment data. This allows us to map your database fields to DSX’s expected functions.

1. Identify the Key Tables

Please locate the tables in your database that contain:

  • Order headers – basic order-level information (order number, date, customer, ship method, etc.)

  • Order items – individual product lines on each order (SKU, quantity, unit price, etc.)

  • Tracking/writeback fields – fields you want us to update (e.g., tracking number, shipping carrier, label date)

If you're unsure, your IT or database administrator should be able to help you locate these.

2. Download the Field Mapping Template

To assist in the process, we’ve prepared a structured Excel template for documenting the fields in your system:

πŸ‘‰ Download the DSX ODBC Field Mapping Template

Use this file to:

  • Fill in the columns that map to your order, item, and tracking tables

  • Provide field names, data types, and descriptions

  • Note any conditions or requirements per field

Once completed, email the file to your Shipwise Implementation Specialist.

3. (Optional) Export Your Schema

If preferred, you may also generate SQL schema files for your relevant tables:

  1. Open your SQL database tool (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio).

  2. Right-click the table > Script Table As > Create To > Clipboard.

  3. Paste the script into a text file and name it after the table (e.g., Orders.txt).

  4. Repeat for order items and tracking-related tables.

  5. Zip the files and send them to your Shipwise contact.
