Workstation Login and Single-Session Rules

This article explains what to know about user login behavior and workstation access to ensure correct processing on each workstation.

Summary

  • Only one user session is allowed per workstation for processing. If the same user is logged in on multiple workstations, the earlier session will not be able to process.

User login rules

  • Single active session per workstation: A workstation accepts one logged-in user at a time for processing.
  • Single-user concurrency limitation: If a user is logged into multiple workstations simultaneously, the earlier session (the one logged into previously) will be unable to process while the later session is active.

Practical steps

  1. When provisioning a new workstation:
    • Create a dedicated user profile for that workstation when needed so a separate active session exists for processing.
    • If you already have multiple user profiles available, you may not need to create an additional profile for a new station.
  2. Before starting processing on a workstation:
    • Verify which user is currently logged in on that workstation.
    • Ensure the same user is not actively logged into another workstation at the same time.

Troubleshooting common issue

  • Symptom: A workstation cannot process orders or tasks after a user logs in.
    • Cause: The same user is already logged in on a different workstation; only the most recent session can process.
    • Resolution: Log out the user from the other workstation or use a distinct user profile on this workstation so the current session can process.

Conclusion

  • To avoid processing interruptions, ensure each active workstation session uses a distinct user profile or make sure users are not simultaneously logged into multiple workstations.
