What are special services?

Special services can be attached to carrier services (ship methods) on a regular, or one-off basis to meet shipping needs.

Why are special services useful? 

Special services are useful for customers who ship items with high value, dangerous goods (hazardous materials), and/or need to fulfill unique client requests when shipping.

• SIG- Signature Required
  Description: Do not deliver without a signature.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic besides P11. International P60, P63, P90
• ASIG- Adult Signature Required
  Description: Do not deliver without a signature of a person over the age of 21.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic besides P11. International P60, P63, P90
• RD- Restricted Delivery
  Description: Do not deliver without the signature of the person who is the addressee.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic besides P11
• ARD- Adult Signature Restricted Delivery
  Description: Do not deliver without a signature of a person over the age of 21 who is the addressee. 
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic besides P11
• CERT- Certified Mail
  Description: Proof package was sent, delivered or a delivery attempt, and obtain the signature of the recipient.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic besides P11. International P60, P63, P90
• REG- Registered Mail
  Description: Provides added protection for valuable and important customer and internal mail with evidence of mailing and delivery.

• COD- Collect On Delivery
  Description: Package recipients will pay for shipping when package is received.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic besides P11. International P60, P63, P82, P90
• DCR- Delivery Confirmation
  Description: Package postage label will include a tracking barcode and number. 
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services except P06, P10, P11 & P21. International P60, P63, P90
• ELSPL- Print Scan Return Label
  Description: Prints a USPS return label.
  Supported Ship Methods: P01, P03, P43
• RETREC- Return Receipt
  Description: A label that provides evidence of delivery along with info about the recipient's delivery address.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services except P11.
• ERETREC- Electronic Return Receipt
  Description: An email that provides evidence of delivery along with info about the recipient's delivery address.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services except P11.
• INS- Carrier Insurance
  Description: USPS will provide insurance for the shipped package.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services, all international services.
• PIP- Private Insurance
  Description: Insurance for the shipped package will be provided by a private postal insurance company.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services, all international services.
• HAZ- Hazmat Flag
  Description: Package contains material identified as hazardous.
  Supported Ship Methods: P01, P02, P43
• ORMD- Dangerous Goods Code
  Description: Items and materials that present a danger when being transported.
  Supported Ship Methods: P01, P02, P43
• DGC- Dangerous Goods Code (v2)
  Description: Items and materials classified as harmful to living beings and/or the environment. 
  Supported Ship Methods: P01
• LEAVE- Leave if No Response Endorsement
  Description: Package can be left in an unprotected location.
  Supported Ship Methods: P05
• REQRET- Return Service Endorsement
  Description: Package will be returned either with a new address or simply a notice of non-delivery.

• ADDRFIX- Address Correction Endorsement
  Description: Helps to identify if the addressee of the package has moved.

• HND- Special Handling Flag
  Description: Special handling provides preferential handling, but not preferential delivery, to the extent practicable in the dispatch and transformation.
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services except P11.
• HFRAG- Special Handling - Fragile
  Description: Additional care for plants, animals, and sensitive items and merchandise. 
  Supported Ship Methods: All domestic services except P11.
• HPERISH- Special Handling - Perishable
  Description: Handling of food items such as refrigerated and frozen foods that could be spoiled in a short time.
